Homeschool- A Kid’s Perspective

by Jesse on January 20, 2014

I get asked a lot, “what made you choose to homeschool”? A friend shared this video with me and I thought it summed up so many of our family philosophies on homeschooling. For our family it’s not about raising my kids to go to college and get a job. It’s about creating a life for yourself doing something you are passionate about. The internet has really changed the job market. Opening up so many new and exciting opportunities to do something that is fulfilling to you. (It’s never too late to change up what you’re doing too.)

Take a look at this video. I think it might change the way you look at education.

I have seen this video before, but I was happy to watch it again now that it’s making its rounds about the blogosphere once more. I agree that unfortunately conventional education methods do not prioritize a child’s strengths, passions, character, dreams. I was lucky enough to find a small private school that does that, where children learn without pressure, where they can speak their mind without being afraid of being penalized for being honest, where they can share their passions and have time to focus on them, where they don’t have to compete for attention, or be rushed through something they might be having difficulty with. If I though I could be as patient and do as good a job as my daughter’s wonderful teachers, I would definitely homeschool. But I know I am lucky and in the minority to have someone who is so invested in positive education and creating wonderful, well-rounded people that I trust them with them as I trust myself.

I am glad you shared this video, because I have never shared it with my family, and I think my 14 year old would enjoy it. Thanks!
