I’m Curious

by Jesse on March 10, 2011

Today, I’m curious.

What is your take on design? Do you like the uber designer style? Something that you see in the magazines. Do you feel like that is somewhat unattainable? Or do you like a less “done” or maybe I should say less overdone look?

Do tell!

I find myself being more attracted to a livable space. I want my guest and my family to feel like they can sit on the furniture. Not that they have to be afraid to be in the room. There are some designer pieces I am attracted to, but find that I feel more comfortable and at home in a space that has a collected over time feel. I don’t want all matching pieces in my rooms. I don’t want it to look like I purchased the set. I do want things to flow, and enjoy coming across a piece that I think will work.

I have been contemplating my curtain options for some time now and am on the look out for a new media cabinet. Lamps are also something I have been considering. Now to come across the right things. The process is really the fun part!

Hope you are having a terrific day. We are going to take an early spring break day and go to the movie!

If you would like, the voting for the top 25 home design mom blogs is still on, and I would love your vote!

I love a cozy/casual look. I want you to walk through my door and have it feel like a big hug surrounding you.

I love looking at uber designed homes online or in magazines – I find them incredibly inspiring to my untrained eye, but for my own home, i like a more relaxed space filled with things I love, including eclectic furniture and inherited items (like my great grandma’s handmade quilt in my living room). I think the uber designs are unattainable to me personally for several reasons: lack of finances, lack of time to keep it tidy, two young kids, and honestly my own lack of confidence in knowing how to design a space. Plus, i want a space where people can come in and feel at home and relaxed. I want my home to be a haven for my family filled with things that are reminders of our values and goals. I really really love designer spaces too though. ๐Ÿ™‚

I love the cozy “livable” look, too. I’m also not too much into very “modern” shapes either. They look too geometrically sharp and uncomfortable for me. And I voted for ya… TWICE! Good luck!

hmmm. design style. that’s hard. i don’t even know. i guess it would fit the if i see it, like it, can visualize where i’d put it, and it has a good price, then i buy it. yep, my house is fairly bare. those ‘just so’ conditions don’t happen too often.

The first image is my favorite. I think we can be inspired by magazine images but put our own family friendly spin on them. I have always coveted to navy velvet tufted sofa I once saw in a magazine, but with a dog and two children it’s not practical-maybe that’s why I’m considering painting my walls navy, I’ll get the color without the worry of spills.

Definitely the lived in look. I wouldn’t want anyone to walk in my house and think I was trying too hard (I’m not a professional or anything). I want my home to be a place where my son can be a kid without worrying about crying over something that might get messed up in the process. I think it’s definitely possible to create a beautiful, yet “real” space.

I’m with you! I want a livable space but I also like designer-esque items. I think we live in an eclectic mix and I love it. : )

Loving these images, I {heart} that trellis wallpaper!

Thanks for stopping by, I couldn’t reply by e-mail to your comment as it’s not set up but I commented back on the original post. How funny, my husband is famous for saying that too!! I almost included itin my post actually. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Yes, it’s a great motto to live by.

I like a livable space that is cozy yet stylish. I don’t like things to be too ornate. This is a hard question though as I find my style to be ever evolving.
Have a great weekend Jesse.

I like a house to look more like it came about a little at a time. I’m not a set girl either. I’d rather find something here and there.

My hubby and I both love the rustic look, which we will do throughout most of our new home. However, I am obsessed with all things girly, glam and fifties/sixties if it was only me, my entire house would be looking like that first picture! lol However, I will do the master bedroom in a retro theme. My hubby has his garage and outbuilding to feel manly in, so I deserve a feminine room to escape to! Great pics, as usual!

Yep. The liveable look is perfect for me. And I don’t really want a piece of decor or furniture in a room that doesn’t serve an actual purpose. And I’m not super modern or super traditional….I’m a balance in between.

Oh I can’t wait to see when you officially make it to the top 25 list! I just know you will!

While I’d love to be able to have a designer style home, that’s just not practical or possible. I’ll settle for a few designer style spots in my house instead ๐Ÿ™‚
I’m drawn to white rooms with a few pops of color, which is NEVER gonna happen at my place ๐Ÿ™‚ Learned the hard way when we bought a couple IKEA Poang chairs with the slipcovered cushions in natural. After two years of needing to wash them almost constantly (and seams starting to come apart from the many washings) I am ready to dye them a denim blue. That should look good with the denim slipcover with apple green cording I’m making for our couch.
We’re more into comfort than style (although it’s nice to have both!).

Hi, I know this was posted awhile back, but do you have any idea what color walls the first picture used. I want to paint my wall the same but can’t figure out what white or cream it is. Thanks! Kelli
